Abstract:The dissolved organic carbon (DOC) of some forest soils in Jiangsu and the correlations between soil DOC and some other soil factors were analyzed. The results revealed that there was a very significant positive correlation between the concentrations of DOC and the concentrations of organic carbon, total nitrogen, available nitrogen and available phosphorus. Soil DOC can be used as an index of soil fertility because of its close correlation with soil fertility factors. A very significant positive or a positive correlation was found between the DOC concentrations in soil and the concentrations of organic iron, organic aluminum and active aluminum, which means that soil DOC is one of the important factors which control the migration of aluminum and iron in soil. However, DOC was not found to be associated with exchangeable aluminum, pH, total phosphorus and available potassium.
