Abstract:An experiment was conducted trying to grade and assess soil fertility of the cultivated land in Qingzhou, Shandong, by the rules stipulated by the Ministry of Agriculture. Based on large amounts of information about soil fertility of the cultivated land obtained from field-survey and lab analysis, and with the aid of the techniques of GIS and SPSS as well as various mathematical models, the assessment was carried out automatically and quantitatively. The distribution characteristics, present land use, existing problems and countermeasures for cultivated land of different fertility grade were also discussed in this paper, in the hope that the results of the study may serve as scientific basis for efficient and sustainable use of the cultivated land in Qingzhou.
