In this study contents, compositions and some other characteristics and distribution patterns of salts in the soil and groundwater of a typical intertidal zone in Jiangsu Province were obtained through analysis and numerical fitting of a huge number of soil samples taken thereof. The results show that groundwater salinity was evidently in linear relation to electrical conductivity of groundwater, and so was soil total salinity to electrical conductivity of 1:5 soil water solution. As a result, groundwater/soil salinity could be rapidly acquired with high precision and reliability with the assistance of the relational function respectively. The outcome of this study can be used as an important theoretical basis for decision-making for exploitation and utilization of the shoal resources in Jiangsu, and thus it will find extensive application in future.
