Difference of selenium uptake and transport in seedlings between enriched-and non-enriched-selenium rice cultivars was studied using hydroponic experiments. The results showed that the Se-enriching cultivar was much higher than the common cultivar in Se absorption rate and Se concentration in leaves, but they were quite similar in Se concentration in roots. So the former was significantly higher than the latter in ratio of total selenium in shoots against total selenium in roots, particularly when the selenium level was lower (20 μg/L). It was quite obvious that the difference in Se concentration between the two rice cultivars might be attributed to their difference in Seuptake and transportation.
