The change of farmland area varies with the developing level and growth period of economy. Study on the coordination between regional urbanization and farmland is significant to understand and deal with properly the harmony between economical development and farmland protection. This paper analyzed the coordination relationship between urbanization and farmland area of Chuzhou city from 1974 to 2004 based on statistical data. The result showed that there was a nonlinear relation between urbanization and farmland area, thus a coordination index model was established to calculate and analyze the coordination index between urbanization and farmland area. The variation of the coordination index with the time period implied that there were uncoordinated factors in farmland decrease during the urbanization.
