Abstract:Balanced nutrition is an essential component of nutrient management and plays a significant role in increasing crop production and quality. This paper reviewed the interaction effect of S and the other nutrients on nutrient uptakes, yields, and qualities of crops. Interaction of S and N or Ca , K, Zn on the uptake and utilization of each other were synergistic effects, whereas interaction of S and Mg, Mo, Cu, Se, Fe, Sb, Cd, B, Br on those were antagonistic effects. However, synergistic effects or antagonistic effects between S and P or Se depent on plant varieties, growth periods, and concentrations of nutrients. Combined application of N and S improved protein synthesis and increases yields and qualities of crops. Application of sulfur fertilizer could reduce toxic effects of heavy metal elements in vegetables grown on polluted soils or induce serious deficiencies of B or Mo of vegetables on the soils with low S contents due to antagonistic effects between S and the other nutrients.
