The soil samples are not only a valuable visual aids of soil science teaching, but also can be used for soil characterization and comparative study. Soil monoliths of the typical soil types in Shandong Province were selected, including brown soil, cinnamon soil, Shajiang black soil, alluvial soil, sandy soil, coastal saline soil and paddy soil. The shallow soil monoliths were manufactured by the method of splint cementation. Soil peds and new growths were also collected. All the soil samples have been exhibited for 2 years, which provides a new way of teaching and scientific research for soil science.
