$ \frac{{\partial \theta }}{{\partial t}} = \nabla \cdot\left[ {{K_{\text{s}}}{K_{\text{r}}}\left( h \right)\nabla \left( {h + z} \right)} \right] + {S_{\text{w}}} $ (1)

S (mol/kg):

$ {C_{\text{T}}} = \theta C + {\rho _b}S $ (2)

$ \frac{{\partial \theta C}}{{\partial t}} + {\rho _b}\frac{{\partial S}}{{\partial t}} = \frac{\partial }{{\partial z}}\left[ {\theta D\frac{{\partial C}}{{\partial z}}} \right] - \frac{\partial }{{\partial z}}\left( {qC} \right) + {R_{{\text{che}}}} $ (3)

式中:弥散系数D(m2/s)=$ \lambda \left|q\right|/\theta +{D}_{0}{\tau }^{-1} $,其中,λ为弥散度(m),D0为自由水中的分子扩散系数(m2/s),$\tau $为土壤弯曲度;达西流速q(m/s)=−${K_{\text{s}}}{K_{\text{r}}}\left( h \right)\nabla \left( {h + z} \right)$Rche为零阶/一阶源汇及形态转化项(mol/(m3·s))。

$ S = {K_{\text{d}}}C $ (4)

$ S = \left( {{q_{{\text{max}}}}{K_{\text{L}}}C} \right)/\left( {1 + {K_{\text{L}}}C} \right) $ (5)

Table 1 Comparison of heavy metal transport models in soil

Table 2 Comparison of electrical adsorption models for heavy metals in soil

Table 3 Comparison of software for heavy metal speciation transformation in soil

$ {\text{BCF}} = \frac{{{C_{{\text{plant}}}}}}{{{C_{{\text{soil}}}}}} $ (6)

$ \begin{aligned} {C_{{\text{plant}}}} = &{\beta _0} + {\beta _1}{C_{{\text{soil}}}} + {\beta _2}{\text{pH}} + {\beta _3}{\text{SOM}} + {\beta _4}{\text{CEC}} + \hfill \\ &{\beta _5}{\text{EC}} + \varepsilon \hfill \\ \end{aligned} $ (7)

$ f = \frac{{{K_{{\text{M-BL}}}} \cdot \left[ {{{\text{M}}^{n + }}} \right]}}{{1 + {K_{{\text{M-BL}}}} \cdot \left[ {{{\text{M}}^{n + }}} \right] + \sum {{K_{i{\text{-BL}}}} \cdot [{C_i}]} }} $ (8)

式中:f为生物配体占据分数;${K_{{\text{M - BL}}}}$为目标金属离子(Mn+)与生物配体的结合常数(L/mol);$\left[ {{{\text{M}}^{n + }}} \right]$为自由金属离子活度(mol/L);${K_{i{\text{-BL}}}}$为第i种竞争性阳离子(如Ca2+、Mg2+等)与生物配体的结合常数(L/mol);$ [{C_i}] $为第i种竞争性阳离子的活度(mol/L); ∑表示对体系中所有竞争性阳离子求和。

Abstract: Soil heavy metal contamination is a major environmental issue threatening food security and human health, and mathematical models are key tools for quantitatively predicting the migration and transformation of heavy metals in the soil-plant system. However, model development in this field currently exhibits a significant “asymmetric pattern”. This paper systematically reviewed and analyzed the state of modeling research on heavy metal transfer from soil to plants, aiming to reveal the specific manifestations, underlying causes, and future directions of this asymmetry. The study found that: 1) On the soil side, mechanistic models based on the coupled framework of “hydrodynamics–solute transport–geochemistry” (e.g., HYDRUS, PHREEQC) are already highly advanced. These models can precisely simulate the physical transport of heavy metals and their speciation transformations based on surface complexation models (e.g., CD-MUSIC, NICA-Donnan), indicating that soil modeling has entered a stage of mechanistic and fine-scale representation. 2) In stark contrast, model development on the plant side lags significantly. Current approaches still largely rely on empirical parameters such as the bioconcentration factor (BCF) and transfer factor (TF), lacking mechanistic descriptions of critical physiological processes including membrane transport, long-distance translocation, and tissue compartmentalization, creating a pronounced “mechanistic gap”. 3) At the system coupling level, a “disconnection” exists: most current models adopt a unidirectional, soil-to-plant linkage, neglecting dynamic feedback from root activities (e.g., root exudates, pH regulation) on the soil microenvironment, and thus failing to establish a closed-loop interactive system. To advance modeling toward greater integration and systematization, this paper proposed future research priorities: efforts should focus on resolving the coupling challenges at the “root-soil interface”, developing dynamic heavy metal accumulation models based on functional-structural plant models, and establishing new paradigms for multi-source data fusion and model-data assimilation. These breakthroughs are essential for bridging the mechanistic gap and achieving bidirectional coupling and accurate prediction in soil-plant systems.
